The Filipino Secret | Behind the Pot

"Utan" refers to a simple and nutritious Filipino vegetable dish, often called Utan Bisaya. It's a traditional soup made with a variety of fresh vegetables like squash, okra, eggplant, string beans, and malunggay leaves, boiled in water. Sometimes, fish or other protein is added for extra flavor.

The history of "Utan," particularly Utan Bisaya, is deeply rooted in Filipino culinary traditions. This simple vegetable soup originates from the Visayas region of the Philippines and reflects the resourcefulness of Filipino cooking. It is closely related to other regional dishes like dinengdeng from Ilocos, bulanglang from CALABARZON, and laswa from Western Visayas

Here’s my video tutorial showcasing how I prepare my version of Utan.
